7-Zip 26.01 is the latest stable version of the popular open-source file archiver, released on April 27, 2026, by developer Igor Pavlov. This version is a maintenance and feature update to the 26.00 branch, focusing on bug fixes and introducing important improvements primarily for the Linux version, while maintaining and enhancing its robust performance on Windows.

What’s New in Version 26.01?

While the core functionality remains the highly efficient compression tool users expect, version 26.01 introduces several key changes:

• Linux Performance Boost: This version adds support for huge pages (2 MB pages) for the Linux version, which can increase compression speed by up to 10% for 7z/xz/LZMA/LZMA2 compression.

• New Command-Line Switch: A new -spo[d|c|r] switch has been added to specify path generation mode for the output directory during archive extraction. This provides more flexibility for advanced users and scripting.

• General Bug Fixes: As with any maintenance release, various bugs identified since the 26.00 release have been addressed. Some users have reported false positive virus detections by Microsoft Defender and other antivirus software; this is an error by the scanners and not a security issue with the legitimate 26.01 version.
