Taksim Trio’s third studio album, Ahi, captures the Turkish masters at a creative peak, forging a powerful blend of traditional Turkish and Arabic music with jazz, progressive rock, and improvisation. Released on September 23, 2016, the album represents a bold step forward for the group, embracing a more dynamic and globally-minded sound.

The Artists
Ahi is performed by three celebrated childhood friends and virtuosos of Turkish music :

• Hüsnü Şenlendirici – clarinet

• Aytaç Doğan – kanun (Arabic zither/cimbalom)

• İsmail Tunçbilek – electric bağlama (Anatolian lute)

The Music & Style
The album features 10 tracks. It includes original compositions alongside imaginative interpretations of works by international artists such as jazz guitarist John McLaughlin, Spanish pianist Dorantes, and Turkish musician Cahit Berkay. The music moves beyond traditional boundaries, evoking deep emotions through passionate improvisations that incorporate gypsy melodies, Arabic modes, and a jazz sensibility . Arrangements were primarily handled by İsmail Tunçbilek, who also recorded, mixed, and mastered the album . The album is widely noted for its “jazzy” and hypnotic qualities, offering a calming and immersive listening experience.
